Privacy policy

Effective 26 October 2026

This policy covers Nook, the personal recipe manager published as abiogenesis. It explains the information used to run the recipe app and how to contact us about it.

Privacy contact and operator: Osura Perera, osuraperera@gmail.com. This policy applies to the Nook recipe app and this website.

Information you give Nook

Sign-in with Google or Apple

When you choose Google or Apple sign-in, the provider supplies an identity token and the basic account details you authorise, such as your name, email, and profile photo. Supabase validates the token and manages your Nook session. Nook does not receive your Google or Apple password. Email-and-password sign-in is also available through Supabase.

Google sign-in for Nook does not require access to your Gmail, Google Drive, or Google Contacts. You can review or revoke Nook’s sign-in connection in your Google or Apple account settings. Revoking a connection does not itself delete your Nook account.

AI features and recipe imports

When you use AI-assisted extraction, recipe writing, nutrition estimates, or image features, the content needed for that request may be sent through our backend to Google Gemini or, for supported operations, Groq. This can include selected images, recipe text, ingredients, source links, and prompts. Recipe-import services such as Apify and Jina may receive the URL or search terms needed to fetch a recipe. Image searches may use Unsplash.

These providers process requests under their own service terms and privacy policies. Avoid putting sensitive personal information into recipe text, images, or AI requests. AI-generated cooking and nutrition information can be inaccurate.

Usage, diagnostics, and notifications

Nook records activity such as app opens, recipe saves, shares, and grocery actions, along with account identifiers, session identifiers, timestamps, and associated event details. This supports app functionality, usage limits, reliability, and product improvement. The iOS app also includes Google Firebase Analytics. Hosting and service providers may process technical information such as IP addresses, device information, and request logs.

If you enable push notifications, Nook stores a device push token, account identifier, platform, and registration details. Expo and Apple or Google notification services deliver the notification. You can turn notifications off in your device settings.

Camera and photo permissions let you select or take images for recipes, profiles, and messages. You control these permissions in your device settings.

Subscriptions and service providers

Apple or Google handles store purchases. RevenueCat helps manage subscription status and access to paid features, using a Nook account identifier and purchase-related information. Nook does not receive your full payment-card details from store purchases.

Supabase provides account authentication, database storage, file storage, and backend functions. Other providers described above process the information needed to deliver the features you use. Some providers may process information outside your country, including outside the EU/EEA. Their processing locations and contractual terms depend on the service and configuration.

Why we use information

We use account and content information to provide the service you request, including saving recipes, managing purchases, and delivering social features. Where applicable, this processing is needed to perform our agreement with you. We also process operational information for legitimate interests in maintaining, securing, and improving Nook, and information needed to meet legal obligations. Where processing depends on your consent, you can withdraw that consent; device permissions can be changed in settings. Contact us to object to processing or ask about a particular use.

Storage, retention, and deletion

Account and cooking data are generally kept while needed to provide your account and requested features. Retention also depends on whether information is needed to resolve a support issue, protect the service, manage a purchase, or meet a legal requirement.

Use Settings → delete account in Nook to delete your account. The current deletion flow removes your authentication account and profile and deletes related database records through database relationships. Uploaded files, content already shared with other people, provider records, and backups may require separate handling and may not disappear immediately. For a broader erasure request, including uploaded images, contact us from your account email. See account deletion instructions.

Deleting a Nook account does not cancel an Apple or Google subscription. Cancel subscriptions through the store that billed you.

Your choices and rights

You can edit profile information and device permissions, manage your store subscription, and request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection where applicable. You can also withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing. Email osuraperera@gmail.com; we may ask for information needed to verify account ownership. Do not email passwords or sign-in tokens.

If EU/EEA data-protection law applies, you may complain to your local supervisory authority. In Sweden, this is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY). We do not use recipe or nutrition estimates to make legal or similarly significant automated decisions about you.

This website and policy updates

This public website has no sign-in form, advertising scripts, or analytics scripts added by Nook. Its hosting provider may process basic access and security logs. Changes to this policy will be published here with an updated effective date.
